Principle of Sand Tank Filtration:

Quartz sand of a certain scale is generally placed in the sand tank. The size of quartz sand varies in a certain range. In the sand tank, quartz sand is arranged from top to bottom, from small to large. When normal filtration, water enters from the upper layer of sand and comes out from the lower layer. When water flows through the filter layer, the small holes formed by the solid suspended substances entering the upper layer of the filter material are absorbed and mechanically retained by the surface layer of the filter material. At the same time, the suspended substances are overlapped and bridged, as if forming a layer of film on the surface of the filter layer to continue to pass through. Filtration of suspended substances in water is called membrane filtration of filter material surface layer. This kind of filtering action not only exists on the surface of the filter layer, but also has this kind of interception effect when water enters the intermediate filter layer. In order to distinguish it from the filtration of the surface layer, this function is called osmotic filtration.

 

In addition, due to the close arrangement of sand particles, the suspended particles in water will have more opportunities to collide and contact with the surface of filter materials and time when they flow through the curved channels in the sand layer. Thus, the suspended particles in the water will adhere to the surface of the particles in the sand layer and the flocculate will contact and coagulate.

 

In summary, sand tank filtration is through membrane filtration, osmosis filtration and contact filtration process, so that water can be further purified.
